(Creative Habit) Finale… (sort of…)

Quick Recap…
” For the next up and coming project, we are to explore an activity or habit for at-least 5-7 times a week, For at-least 30 min – an Hour (1 hr).

The Activity must be repeatable and completable, and we should not be purely using an internet based source. We should be looking else where, in the world away from visual arts in particular. Learning to take inspiration of that around you.

The idea I chose to pursue…
The first idea
that came to mind, was more following the world of music. Exploring the idea of taking a single song per day. Then through the act of listening, gathering inspiration to create a completely visual piece whether it be a 5″ x 5″ canvas painting, or a digitally rendered illustration for the song or piece. “

The summary of the creative habit… in order from newest to oldest.

Thanks for following along throughout the project!

I wish I could have done more canvas paintings, but that is all in good fun…
Maybe this summer!

Final’s week…. Everything is coming to an end for the second semester of sophomore year here at CCAD, and things are wrapping up quite nicely. and as you know we are continuing our creative habit project…

I chose to do “Someone’s Missing” by MGMT, for my first painting this week. I chose to do this painting as a digital painting inside of photoshop. As you can see there are much more clean lines.

The next song I chose was “Big Boy” by Balam Acab. Much more abstract in nature, just to try and switch up the style used. Also done as a digital painting.

I continued to do a quick thumbnail stage of the sketches however, none of the sketches were very interesting or legible to the fact that most of this is in an abstract manner, to simply get a feel for painting canvases.

I have now had the time to pursue the painting of these canvases, I chose the song Surrender her, by Klimeks. (of course, House Music) As the first canvas, it took a couple redo’s to get a complete version of the piece but it ended up being pretty interesting. I am playing with the texture that the canvas and oil paints can give off, as well as the texture you can create with different strokes.

The second song I got around to painting this week was for a song called UV Rays, by Poptartpete. (More… House music.) Again focusing on how oil paints react on canvas, and really just testing out the medium. I wanted to stay away from trying to paint one object or the thing. Instead I wanted to focus on the texture and feel the the piece gave off.

(Creative Habit) Just the Start…

For the next up and coming project, we are to explore an activity or habit for at-least 5-7 times a week, For at-least 30 min – an Hour (1 hr).

The Activity must be repeatable and completable, and we should not be purely using an internet based source. We should be looking else where, in the world away from visual arts in particular. Learning to take inspiration of that around you.

Then through the act of listening, gathering inspiration to create a completely visual piece whether it be a 5″ x 5″ canvas painting, or a digitally rendered illustration for the song or piece.

I started this task by using my first days or sets of 30 – 60 (min) to start creating a possible song list, and how I am going to go about creating quick mock up sketches before going to the canvas to paint. So that I have a bit more of a justified idea rather than just going straight into painting the canvas.

Some possible artists / songs I want to do canvases for…

– Neon Indian, Oddissees, (other possible house music options).
– David Bowie? (a bit retro)
– Bob marley, Biggie?
– New kendrick? (DAMN.)
– The Drums, Beech Fossils, Gorillaz (other indie options)
– New mac demarco.
– etc.

I haven’t fully obtained all the necessary tools to start the task of painting canvases as I only had one, that was left over from past work. So I decided to paint one for this week, and focus on setting up the project for myself down the line by gathering songs, and other possibilities first.

Each song will get about 3-6 thumbnail sketches just so I can get a basic concept for how the canvas is going to be painted, and what is going to be painted.

IMG_4623.jpg
(the quick thumbnail sketches will look like this of sorts, for the most part)

Unfortunately I have been swamped this week, so I have not gotten around to getting a canvas done yet. Although progress is coming along…

Tune in next week to find out more…

(CREATIVE HABIT) A NEW BEGINNING.

The first idea that came to mind, was more following the world of music. Exploring the idea of taking a single song per day. Then through the act of listening, gathering inspiration to create a completely visual piece whether it be a 5″ x 5″ canvas painting, or a digitally rendered illustration for the song or piece.

Then each piece will be marked alongside, its song, and the artist.

My second idea was simply using the lack of inspiration. Unplugging, and just spending 30-60min on a small canvas (3″ x 3″ or 5″x 5″). Just listening to music, and painting how I feel for every day. Possibly even dating them as I go, so I can see the progression through the different days.  ( this could also be a spin off of the first idea, that would be following a song and painting a canvas for the song )

My Third and Last idea was the idea of taking a word a day, as inspiration to sketch or doodle a couple pages or so or doing some sort of monster / character design using the word to describe the creature. A new character / or concept a day, just to train my hand. OR possibly even making the more liked sketches into more semi comp digital renderings.

Help Me Decide!

Tune in next week to find out what habit I choose to persue.

(Pipeline Project) Finale.

This last week, I have worked to complete the final layout of the calendar. Finding the color, and font for the final layout as well as figuring out how the pictures will act on the the pages.

I formated out the InDesign document for the groups final layout for print production and creation of the final layout.

(Pipeline Project) Layout.

We have started to configure the final layout of the calendar, as a design team we are now testing new possibilities for the calendar layout.

Such as…
– font
– color palette
– how the photos will interact with the layout of the calendar.
– final layout style of calendar
– squares, hectagons, triangles, etc…?

To start, i set up the InDesign document that the team is going to use to print the calendar, and create a final layout so we can visually see the layout on a screen.

(Master page, 2 Page spread)

I also set up a basic template for the team to work off of, setting in the 2018 dates for the calendar as well.

We will be designing the cover, and back separately.
